PEIYCA Tournament this Sunday, April 17th

Hi All,

There is still time to sign up for the school team tournament!  Just email before the end of the day on Thursday with your team.  I have attached a form.

If your school has a chess club, talk to the club organizer.   If not, you can still form a team as long as all 4 players are from the same school and in one of the following groups:  k-4, k-6, 7-9, 10-12.

We need more teams in the Grade 7-9 group!

It will be an exciting tournament with teams from Greenfield ES, Westwood PS, Spring Park ES, West Kent ES, Prince Street ES, Queen Charlotte IS, Kensington HS, and Colonel Gray HS.

See everyone on Sunday!  Check in starts at 12:15 but please check in no later than 12:45, so that we can start at 1:00.   We will have a canteen, as well as having chess sets and 50/50 tickets to sell.

Thanks
Jan

The PEI Provincial Chess Challenge is on Sunday Feb. 28, with a storm date of March 6.  I have attached the registration form.  Please note that registration must be received no later than Feb. 26.

The next regular monthly tournament is on Sunday April 3.

The school team tournament is April 17.   Details to follow on this event.

May 8 is a regular monthly tournament.

Please check out our website (www.peiyca.ca) and like our page on Facebook.

Also, we are still in need of volunteers!  We need volunteers to assist at tournaments and for a number of other activities.   We are a not-for-profit, volunteer run association and depend on fundraising and tournament fees to be able to support all our activities including tournament costs, camps, assisting the PEI Team attend the National tournament, running the annual Maritime Scholastic and supplying chess sets for school clubs.   Please let us know if you can help in any way.

Chess Mini-Camp

Hi All,

The registration deadline for the mini-camp on Saturday Feb 20 has been extended until Friday Feb. 19.  You can sign up by email or phone 902-658-2409.  The entry fee is $15 and can be paid when you sign-in between 12:30-1:00.  The event goes from 1-3 pm at Colonel Gray HS.

The event is open to all but will focus on players not as familiar with, or wanting a refresher on, tournament play.   It is also an opportunity for those in gr 1-4 who have not participated in PEIYCA events in the last year to ensure that they qualify for the PEI Provincial Chess Challenge on Feb 28.  Aaron Rainnie will provide the group lesson, after which their will be a CMA rated mini-tournament.

I have attached a flyer with the information.  Please share with your schools.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks
Jan
